"All About the Watermill"

The second of a pair of paintings depicting water mills. The idea came from an old photo of mills I took while travelling in France in the 1980s. In this painting I tried to create a sense of a community of buildings grouped around the function of running a mill.

The idea to paint water mills came from a photo of mills I took while travelling in France in the 1980s. Later when doing my family history I learned that I come from a long line of millers from Dorset in England.

The walls of the mills are so rich with the passing of time and I had a wonderful time creating the texture. The water lilies were added to give a touch of colour. One of a pair with The Old Watermill.
